At HWL, we have always been passionate about nurturing young talent and supporting the next generation of skilled professionals in the engineering industry. We are thrilled to have Lewis on board as our new apprentice.

A Bit About Lewis

Lewis joined UTC Leeds in 2020 at the young age of 14, embarking on a path that would lead him to explore his passion for engineering. Over the years, he has not only excelled in his core subjects but has also delved deep into the world of Engineering, honing his skills and knowledge. Lewis is the first successful candidate to progress through our very own HWL training course we devised in collaboration with UTC Leeds and GFTS.

We are pleased to announce this course has been very well received and we plan to keep it running through the next academic term. This comprehensive course has given Lewis the opportunity to engage in practical learning, enabling him to apply his knowledge to real-life situations. We are extremely proud of Lewis, who has now finished his Performing Engineering Operations Qualification at Level 2!

During his time at UTC Lewis showed remarkable dedication, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn. Lewis’ hard work paid off throughout his studies and he won the prestigious award for most improved engineer. Now Lewis has completed his level 2 qualification at UTC he is progressing onto a Level 3 maintenance operations engineering technician apprenticeship through HWL. We are very proud of Lewis and his accomplishments knowing he will bring the same mentality and work ethic as he progresses his studies through us.

Lewis with HWL

We are looking forward to continue nurturing Lewis through his educational journey and are proud to see his hard work paying off. At HWL, we see our role as more than just a company. We are a community that thrives on teamwork and dedication.

Our current maintenance & operations engineering technician Dennis Bedford will be retiring later this year. Who will be replaced by our Engineering Manager; Liam Killeen. Liam has in recent years completed the same 42-month course Lewis has just started, so he becomes the best-placed natural mentor for this key integration into the business. Our team is thrilled to be Lewis’s mentors and guides, providing him with invaluable insights and hands-on experience, with the aim of preparing for the line of succession.

Lewis’s journey with HWL is just beginning, and we are excited to witness his growth and accomplishments in the years ahead. As an organization committed to empowering young talent, we are honoured to play a role in shaping the future of the engineering industry, one apprentice at a time.

Here’s to Lewis’s success and to the bright future that lies ahead for him.
